Report from the Front Lines
Friday, January 29th, 2010Kevin,
I thought I would give you a snapshot of the past week in the wine dept…
probably the most new world, $120/ btl and under, week I have seen in recent memory. Pinot has been hot for sure and sauv blanc a distant second. Hardly any Burgundy and everyone wants it under $140 lately, it seems. Southern rhones are generating the most movement in the old world dept. and some Gigondas, CDP, and cotes du Rhone could sell fast. Northern Rhone might as well be on the other side of the world…. perhaps because “hermitage” is not near as much fun to say as “Shattow-noof-da Pop”.New world Pinot noir, southern rhones and sauv blancs I see as priority and the rest is seeing what people go for in coming weeks. Syrah is creeping along and surley outpacing cabernet… down to just a couple bottles of Saxum (James Berry only), Booker ‘vertigo’ is gone already. Pinot noir is in the driver’s seat right now. Is Sideways 2 coming soon or something?
Au Revoir
